Sunday 18th September 2011
With the A fixture planned for Sunday being cancelled by Datchworth, Letchworth 'B' sportingly agreed to play our full squad.
The match was divided into quarters to make the rotation of the squads easier. In the first quarter, the first choice squad was selected so they could practise the new game plan before next weeks league fixture against Bedford. The second quarter saw the introduction of the remaining A squad players and the B squad players

" Invincibles!
WOW! 73 - 0. That's not a bad start to the season, gentlemen. And it meant that everyone was able to get some game time. I am sorry if anyone felt they did not get enough but it was essentially a B fixture and so the options were limited.
We demonstrated that our new system can work but equally it was obvious that we will need to continue to work upon it both in terms of properly understanding it conceptually and theoretically as well as being able to physically execute it in the heat of battle. Practice will make perfect and the Bible will help.
But whilst we ran in 11 tries what, I think, was even more impressive - and no mean achievement - was the clean sheet that we kept. Letchworth's potential interception breakaway was killed at birth by the sight of 4 black shirts racing back and hauling the player down as if he was in the Serengeti!!
Of necessity Letchworth B was not ideal but I think we respected them and we used the game to the best of our advantage. The League match this Sunday will provide a sterner test and we now need to concentrate upon it.
The Relentless Man award this week is a difficult decison because there were a number of contenders. It goes however to a player who often stays out of the limelight but on this occasion really came out of his shell and was fairly inspirational in his play and commitment. There were some notable performances not least that of Dan and Stas who were told by the referee that they were the dominant props and to ease off! That is an indictment of their technique and application.
But the award this week goes to James Maby who appeared at times to be possessed and who just missed out on scoring a try of his own to cap a brilliant and satisfying overall team performance.
